Plea to the Tooth Fairy

You work hard, I know. My son loves the thought of you sneaking in during his slumber, snatching up his most recent prized baby tooth, and leaving a little something in return. You’ve only forgotten once and I forgive you for that. It was a busy night and I covered for you.

Now? I ask this favor of you: could you please take us off your flight path for the time being? Not that I don’t appreciate all you do. You’re amazing. The best fairy ever. It’s just that my boy is growing up too darn fast. Every time I turn around and catch a glimpse of that snaggletooth smile, my heart breaks a little.

The other night while tucking him in, he turned to me and we were face to face. What I saw shocked me. I saw this little boy in transition, literally. Some baby teeth, some gaps, and some big boy teeth peeking through. It’s enough to make me want to cry my eyeballs out. I didn’t. I just returned his goofy smile and tried to sear that moment in my memory.

Could you give us some time please? I’m not ready for that next tooth to be taken just yet. And even though he’s thrilled with each tooth that falls from his mouth, I occasionally see the look of a confused little boy in transition.

Has the tooth fairy descended upon your home recently?

no tooth fairy yet. and i'm not sure i can handle it when it happens. physically or emotionally. first of all, i work in an elementary school, and each child who comes up to me to show me “how loose this tooth is” makes me want to gag. am i going to be a HORRIBLE mother in a tooth situation???? and i'm just not emotionally ready for my firstborn to be old enough to start shucking teeth out of their proper location. i'm just not. fortunately, she's 5 1/2 and hers are all still firmly rooted!

Oh, Mamma, I *hear* you! My oldest will be 8 tomorrow…8! On the tooth front, we are behind, he's only lost two and his sister one. My youngest lost her first at her father's this summer and you know what? I was totally okay with that 1. It's going to be an expensive year once the TF catches up with us and 2. If I didn't see it, I could pretend it didn't happen… nevermind the gaping whole in her mouth :)

I've left an award for you on my blog!

I'm already having a hard time each time my little boy changes a clothing size or a shoe size or he outgrows one of his toys. Now I have to worry about teeth! Oh, when will this sadness of watching them grow up too fast end? Dr. Mom, are you sure there isn't some type of potion we can give to them now to slow down the growing process? You know something that's all natural and not harmful? I'll be forever thankful.

I know!!! I cry with ever tooth I pull. Last week my son insisted he pull it himself. That made me cry harder — he's even old enough to pull his own teeth!!!

    Bwahhhaaaaa!

Oh, Yes! I'm know! I know!!! I've also asked my daughter to slow down on the growing end for just a few minutes. Just so I can have her as she is just a little bit longer. (She jumped 2 shoe sizes this summer … seriously … WAY wrong!!!!)

Maya can't wait until the tooth fairy descends! I can't either. I think I am one of the few mothers in this world who can relate to her child more as she grows up! The older she gets, the more I love it. I can't wait to see her gap-filled smile. :)

We're late bloomers with the teeth. She didn't get any until 11 months. We're anticipating the first loss around age 7.

I'm sorry the tooth fairy is doing this to you!

Oooh, that is so sweet. I hate to break it to you, but the time is just going to zip by. It has with us. I couldn't get over my reaction when my daughter lost her first tooth. You would have thought she just gold medaled in the Olympics. I was so thrilled for her. It caught me off-guard over how excited I was over a silly tooth! Maybe I was so excited at seeing her grow and mature? I don't know!

just the other day i was putting away my son's summer clothes and sighing over his shirts and overalls and sandals that will be too small next year, i picked out a couple of my favorite items and stashed them away in a box with other things he has outgrown.
sometimes i look at him, see how much he has grown, see how fast he is changing, and it makes me want to cry. because even if you are there 24/7, it seems like you've missed so much. didnt even notice how he went from baby to a toddler.
i also, however, try to remind myself that i am blessed to have a healthy child, and that there are many parents out there who would give a lot to see their child reach all the milestones my son seems to be rushing through.
yes, my heart tightens up with every piece of clothing that grows tight on him, but oh well, grow, my boy, grow

Oh, losing those teeth just changes everything, doesn't it?! While I loved the crazy grins on Christmas card photos and back to school pics, my heart broke a little bit too, like yours.

Do you know I actually have all of the baby teeth squirreled away in my jewelry drawer? It's an odd sight, and both kids are mixed together. Some are painfully tiny.

Darn fairy…sometimes she comes too soon.

Oh, I can only imagine! Our tooth fairy keeps delivering teeth and I find that crazy enough. Bottom teeth still looked so “baby-ish” but now the top teeth coming through?? So big-boy-ish! :( I can't even think what it must feel like to see all those teeth come in and then start to come out again! Boo! *tear*

My kids lost their teeth somewhat later than most. For them it was a feeling of anxiety, along the lines of will I ever lose my teeth like my friends?! By the time they lost their teeth it was a significant relief.

Such a sweet post! Mine haven't had the snaggletooth look for quite some time. Sniff. I think my son has a couple more to go, but then the Tooth Fairy will be flying off into the night never to return. It goes too fast.

My baby has her first loose tooth. It's heartbreaking for me! She's the last one and I want to hit pause to keep her from getting any older.

I guess we both just have to smile and act excited, for the kiddos' sakes. :)
