Merry Christmas and a few of my favorite things

A few of my favorite thingsIt’s Christmas Eve and the kids are crazy excited. I love this feeling in the air…love, joy, warmth, and excitement.

I hope this finds you snug within the confines of your family circle, enjoying some well deserved down time.

Just thought I’d share with you a few of my favorite things, the ones that are making me smile a little bigger today.

Fav Note

Little Sister was worried that I hadn’t made my Christmas list yet. She grabbed a red marker and piece of paper and began composing my list for me. She asked me how to spell each word, then put it under the Christmas tree. She said, “so Santa will know what you want”.

It was the sweetest thing.

Fav Quote

We were driving  in the car, our little family of four, looking at the beautiful Christmas lights. Big Brother and Little Sister were recounting all the items on their Christmas lists. We hear it several times a day! Then, Big Brother blurts out with this:

But you know, the best thing about Christmas is being with you, Dad, and Little Sister

Love.

Fav Childhood Christmas Memory

I’ll never forget that night, in those midnight hours, the night I saw Santa Claus. Not the mall kind with the fake white beard and ho ho ho. No…the real thing.

I was quiet as could be at the top of those stairs. Five years old and anxious for morning to arrive.

I saw that big red sack slung on top of his shoulders, heading for our family Christmas tree. I couldn’t believe my eyes! My heart starting racing and I ran back upstairs unable to sleep for the rest of the night.

I had just seen Santa Claus! And I almost blew it by being seen. I laid there, quiet as could be until sunrise.

The magic of Christmas was waiting for us all downstairs.

And a magical Christmas it was. Never mind that there was a big red bean bag sitting under the tree with my name on it.

That must have been what Santa was carrying, not his big red sack.

Memories like these…it’s why I don’t mind so much keeping up this hoax for my children. They still believe in Christmas magic. It’s one of the many amazing things about children. Their hopes are high, magic abounds, and the possibilities are endless…

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

What are a few of your favorite things today?

We don’t “celebrate” Santa in our house, but your story about actually seeing Santa is so magical. Merry Christmas.

This was very sweet, especially your favorite memory. My favorite thing this year was seeing my daughter’s eyes widen as she looked into the empty mug of Santa’s hot chocolate. Priceless.

Awww…so cute. I love watching their expressions. We get to live it all over again through them, don’t we?
