The Bright Side of Vomit

Poor Little Sister had an episode of vomiting last night. Of course, it happened right after I had her tucked all snug into bed. And, of course she just happened to have raspberry frozen yogurt for dessert. And, of course, we have inappropriately light (almost white) carpet.

The bright side?

I realized what I’m thankful for when it comes to vomit.

I’m thankful that my husband got there first. I need a little help in here, is what I heard from the next room.

I’m thankful that my husband is willing to catch said vomit, all the while choking back his own, to save poor Little Sister and her bed from bearing the brunt of it.

I’m thankful for a certain sweet three year old girl, who in spite of seeing her raspberry frozen yogurt spew out onto her bed and our insanely light carpet, managed to smile and giggle when it was all said and done.

I’m thankful for a husband who knows how to use a carpet cleaner and went straight to work on the reddish brown vomit trail that extended from Little Sister’s bed to the bathroom.

Honestly, I would have blotted it with warm soap and water and called it a night.

I’m also thankful for a certain six year old boy who lightened the mood by dancing and skipping around the vomit streaks, making sure Dad did not miss any spots during clean up.

Yep, he’s a helpful one.

Finally, I’m thankful that my husband didn’t chastise me for grabbing Little Sister mid-vomit in my attempt to get her to the bathroom, thus leaving a trail of the reddish brown vomit, on the carpet that he had to clean up.

So I guess what I’m really saying is…I’m thankful for a husband who is so great with vomit.

Really, I am.

Thank you honey.

p.s. Little Sister is fine. She slept the rest of the night and will probably bounce out of bed (ours by the way, since hers is still being de-vomited) as if nothing ever happened. Kids are funny (and great) that way.

Ooooh lucky you. We have also been doing the vomit thing this week. Unfortunately for me my hubby was out of town!
I hope she is feeling better today.

He's a good one, your husband. Mine was always at work when the little one had his vomiting episodes, lucky him ;-). But we have tiles on the floor and a cover over the mattress, this helps a lot. Hopefully she's ok now.

Yay for vomit cleaning husbands! We went through that last weekend — no fun! It was my daughters 3rd birthday eve. How crummy for her!! Glad you had some great help – hubbies are great for that sort of dirty work :)

I have one of those hubbys too! Thank God for him or we would be in a big mess! Glad you all survived and hope she is feeling better soon!

Can you hire your husband out? Just wondering!

I like what Cheryl said up above!

I would have just thrown a towel down & called it a night. But my husband would have been cleaning it too!

Sounds like you have an awesome family!

Poor Little Sister, glad she's okay!

I don't know if there is a medical explanation for this, but every Easter season since before I could remember, I would get sick! 34 yrs old, and again, I am sick! Guess your little one gets the holiday vomiting, too? Hope she's feeling better!

Oh my hubby does the vomit clean up too! A few months ago my son puked all over the inside of the car while I was driving. I was in tears and almost puking myself. When I got home, my hubby said he would clean it for me. What a man!

I think you scored big for not having to deal with any of that! Go Dr. Mom!

My husband is also an excellent vomit cleaner! I dread those nights. We've had so many episodes of stomach flu during the past two years that I have a lot of extra crib bedding…I can get him cleaned up and back to his own bed in the time it takes my husband to spot clean the carpet with the carpet cleaner! Hope she's feeling better.

oh my goodness! I am the same way…I take care of the child while hubby cleans the mess. Whew!

A few weeks ago, a friend shared the story of carrying her daughter, who was facing forward, down the hall after getting sick. What she didn't know is that she vomited again, while going down the hall – & she stepped right in it and her feet slipped right out under her and she landed right in it, with her puking daughter right on top of her…agh!! Worst parenting moment ever!!!

My hubs is not so good with the vomit. He will call for "a little help in here" too, but it's a panic-striken tone for sure!

We had an orange-soda incident on our light carpeting too…and it's still faintly visible.

And my daughter won't drink the stuff anymore!
