Linking it Up With Sibling Rivalry #31DBBB

I’m so excited to write this link post as part of the Problogger/SITS Challenge. This got me thinking, I’d like to revisit one of my previous topics, Sibling Rivalry which I wrote about here and here.  This fits in perfectly for me right now considering Big Brother and Little Sister seemed particularly annoyed with each other today. This annoyance ending with a toy boat launched at Big Brother’s face during bath time…ugh, the tears, the screaming…the drama.  Seriously, kiddos, aren’t you both in bed yet?

Yes! My little heathens angels are finally in bed and I’ve scoured some of my favorite blogs seeing what they had to say on the subject of Sibling Rivalry…seems I’m not alone on this one.  Let’s check them out.

Liz, from a belle, a bean, & a chicago dog, found that sibling rivalry starts quite early and really there’s no way getting around it…it’s inevitable.  See how her two adorable girls annoy each other on what should have been a peaceful wagon ride! Thank goodness, I’m not alone!

Licia, from On a Learning Journey, shares an adorable video of her two young boys showing each other some “brotherly love”…see it does start early. There’s no way around it…gotta trudge on through ladies.

Dalia, from Generation X Mom, wonders if, by spacing siblings out by the perfect amount of years (3 according to studies), the relationship between siblings will be optimized with less sibling rivalry.  What do you think?

Gigi, from Kludgy Mom, realizes that although siblings fight and annoy each other, they also speak a language only a brother and sister can understand, it is surprisingly sweet coming from this snarky ex-lawyer. Aww…I hope she knows I adore her.

Genny, from My Cup 2 Yours, has dealt with her fair share of sibling rivalry between her son and daughter. Here, she shares some great parenting advice on how to handle it gracefully , without trying to interfere too much. She always has great advice.

More fantastic Sibling Stories:

Gina, from It’s How She Rolls reminisces about the time her two girls were like two peas in a pod, until an unfortunate underwear incident! I’m sure their “Sisterly Love” will survive the sibling rivalry years.

Alright, well I hope you enjoyed this linky love and that you enjoy visiting these lovely ladies. I know so many of you out there must have some sibling rivalry stories or posts, so if you do, please email them to me and I can add your link here!

Good Luck to everyone participating in the Problogger Challenge!

I'm looking forward to reading all of these!

For the record, my oldest two are 3 years apart and there is still plenty of rivalry there.

I really liked how you commented on each link. Very helpful.

Nice work. I so wanted to do the pro-bloggers challenge and even started, but life keeps getting in the way. I love the way you included all of the blogger sites, you may have just motivated me to try this. My kids are over 4 years apart and there is not as much rivalry as some jealousy and friendly competition. I am looking forward to exploring your site further. Thanks!

This is a perfect post for the 31 DBBB Challenge! You obviously took some time on this one–what a great way to support some awesome bloggers/friends. I'm an only child and so far my little boy is one, too, so I can't offer much in terms of suggestions here, but I will look toward your experience if/when we decide to have another little squirt.

I just learned so much by reading about other bloggers' experiences with sibling rivalry. Quite the challenge, but I guess we are stuck with working through it. I'm just thankful for the community of mommy bloggers because their ideas help me out, and their recounts help me feel like I'm not alone.
I am honored that you linked to my blog :-)

I have to say, a three-year gap has not been a charm in our family. It's enough of an age gap that they don't have much in common and the fact that they are different genders probably doesn't help either.

I discussed this with my kids' pediatrician a while back (he has four kids) and he said from his own experience and what he hears from patients, a three-year gap between a boy and a girl is the worst for sibling rivalry.

Now he tells me! ;0) One day they'll love each other, right?! ;0)

I parent an only child so my stories are about me and my sister. I don't put them on my blog because she's one of my few email subscribers. The sister that is. I'll just go so far as to say that 6.5 years was not a great age gap for us. But I think it was more about our oil and water personalities!

Look at you! Shamefully, I'm about 3 days behind with the challenge – story of my life. But this linky love is perfect. And just what I need to read right now.

My boys (3.5 years apart) are finally showing signs of it this Summer. My Oldest (7) is so easy going, but Youngest (4) really knows how to push his buttons. As the younger sister to an older brother who teased relentlessly, it's interesting to be on this side of the show.

For the most part, it's still brotherly love. I'm soaking it up while I can, because I feel the storm brewing. Off to read some good advice.

Thanks for including my post here! Sibling Rivalry, ugh! Its been quite the summer with the three of them all home together. My experience…the 11 & 13 (girl/boy) fight like cats and dogs….the 5 & 11 (girl/girl) fight almost 80 percent of the day….the 5 & 13 (girl/boy) pretty much never. I don't know if there is really an answer. Depends on a lot of factors. We just all have to learn to deal with it and realize it is normal. Some days this is easier than others!

Nice story on sibling Rivalry. Does it ever stop. Seems it spills over into the work place with peers.

Love how you 'sewed' together all the other bloggers in your dilemma and showed the normalcy of this phenomenon by having others who had the same challenges.

Hmm… interesting list. My question is, why do we believe that our kids are not supposed to fight, and that somehow it's our fault and we should stop it from happening?

Definitely there are things that we, as parents, can do to make it much worse. But at a certain point, sibling rivalry is just part of what it means to have siblings.

Found you through tag-hopping. I also wrote about siblings today, though from a different angle, in this post where I wonder if it's possible (or even desirable) to raise siblings without rivalry.
